How to choose a USB-C laptop charger
Match a USB-C charger, cable, and laptop by Power Delivery support and wattage instead of assuming every USB-C port charges the same way.

Overview
USB-C describes the connector shape, while USB Power Delivery defines how compatible devices negotiate higher charging power. A laptop can have a USB-C port without accepting charging through that port, and a charger can fit physically while still providing too little power for the laptop under load. The useful comparison is the laptop's supported charging input, the charger's advertised USB PD output profiles, and the cable's supported current and power.
Start with the laptop requirement
Check the laptop manufacturer's charging specification or original adapter rating first. If the laptop supports USB Power Delivery input, choose a charger that can meet the required power level rather than matching only the connector. A lower-power charger may charge slowly, only charge while the laptop is asleep, or fail to keep up with heavy use.
Do not ignore the cable
The cable is part of the charging system. Higher-power USB Power Delivery operation can require a cable rated for the intended current and power. A charger capable of high output can still be limited by the cable or by the laptop's own negotiated maximum, so the lowest-capability part of the chain can become the practical limit.
