How to compare hotel prices accurately
Compare hotels using the total stay cost after mandatory fees, taxes, parking, cancellation terms, location, and transportation rather than the headline nightly rate alone.

Overview
Hotel search results can emphasize a base room rate even though the trip cost also depends on mandatory fees, taxes, parking, breakfast, destination charges, and transportation. A slightly more expensive room in the right location can be cheaper overall than a distant property that requires a rental car or repeated rides.
Normalize the quote
Compare the same dates, room occupancy, room type, refundability, taxes, mandatory property fees, and parking. If one offer includes breakfast or another benefit you would otherwise buy, value it realistically rather than at the hotel's advertised retail price.
Price the location
Estimate transportation cost and time to the activities you actually plan to visit. Airport hotels, suburban hotels, and city-center hotels can have very different parking and transit economics even when room rates look similar.
