Why is my laptop battery draining so fast?
Find common causes of unusually short laptop battery life by checking battery condition, power use, background activity, brightness, and high-load applications.

Overview
Short battery runtime can come from an aging battery, unusually heavy processor or graphics use, background applications, high display brightness, wireless activity, or power settings. The useful first step is to separate battery health from current workload: an old battery may hold less energy than when new, while a healthy battery can still drain quickly during demanding work.
Check battery condition first
Use the operating system or manufacturer tools to review battery health or capacity when available. If full-charge capacity is far below the original design capacity, changing software settings cannot restore the missing chemical capacity; replacement may be the practical fix.
Then find active power use
Reduce brightness temporarily, close unnecessary high-load applications, review background activity, and compare runtime under a light workload. If drain only occurs during gaming, rendering, video encoding, or local AI, the high power use may be expected rather than a fault.
