Overview
Laptop power banks need to satisfy two separate questions: whether they can deliver enough power at the required USB Power Delivery profile, and whether they store enough energy for the runtime you expect. Battery labels commonly emphasize capacity, but conversion losses and different voltage conventions mean a raw milliamp-hour number is not a direct laptop-runtime promise. Air travel also places restrictions on spare lithium batteries and power banks.
Match output before capacity
First confirm the laptop can charge through USB-C Power Delivery and identify the wattage it normally expects. Then check the power bank's per-port output rather than only its combined marketing total. A battery pack with large stored energy can still be unsuitable if a single USB-C port cannot negotiate enough power for the laptop.
Convert capacity into realistic expectations
Runtime depends on stored watt-hours, conversion efficiency, the laptop's workload, and charging losses. For flying, review the airline and current FAA guidance before travel because spare lithium batteries and higher-capacity packs can have carriage restrictions even when the pack works technically with the laptop.
